Why this film?

Growing up as the son of a movie loving Baptist minister, I was immersed in both faith and film - especially horror. Saturday nights were for scares, Sundays for faith. This blend of light and dark shaped me, and Wretch Like Me reflects my journey of integrating horror with themes of redemption. After losing my father, the project became even more personal - a story that confronts darkness but ultimately reveals light and hope.

What is the film about?
Wretch Like Me is a gripping horror thriller about Hank, a dying ex-con who must confront a physical manifestation of evil to save his estranged daughter, Becca, from becoming its next vessel. As Hank uncovers dark family secrets and faces his own inner demons, he’s thrust into a battle between light and darkness, where redemption and sacrifice are his only paths to saving Becca - and himself. With intense suspense and emotionally charged stakes, Wretch Like Me explores the depths of fear, faith, and the fight for salvation.

A Legendary Talent: Doug Jones as Hank
A great name actor can elevate a film’s credibility, drawing both industry attention and a dedicated audience who recognize the performer’s established work in the genre. In horror, casting someone who embodies both the nuance and intensity needed for complex characters is crucial, as it grounds the story’s supernatural elements in powerful human emotion.
We’re incredibly excited to announce that Doug Jones will be playing the lead role of Hank in Wretch Like Me. Doug is a truly remarkable actor, known for his ability to bring both humanity and otherworldly presence to his roles. From his unforgettable performance in the Oscar-winning The Shape of Water to iconic characters in Pan’s Labyrinth and Hellboy, Doug has a unique talent for conveying deep emotion even in the most challenging of roles. His work in horror and fantasy makes him the perfect choice to play Hank, a father battling both inner demons and terrifying external forces to save his daughter. Our goals
To bring Wretch Like Me to life, we need to raise $50k by the end of February, which will go towards:

Pre-Production Costs: Including location scouting, casting, rehearsals, equipment testing, and admin costs.

Special FX and Makeup: Running practical effects trials to ensure designs are achievable and realistic. Testing makeup and prosthetics for key characters.
To bring the special FX to life, we need these funds in place so our SFX Supervisor can begin crafting the intricate elements required for Wretch Like Me. We’re thrilled to have secured one of the top talents in the industry for this vital role.
